In addition, Lane also hopes to make select appearances in the ASALMS Challenge Division during the year.
The Algonquin, Illinois freshman will begin his quest for the 2008 ASALMS Northern Division Rookie of the Year title on Friday and Saturday April 11-12, 2008 at the historic Toledo (OH) Speedway in Toledo, Ohio in the running of the Glass Breaker 200. Lorz Motorsports Car Owner, Mike Lorz is counting down the days until his teams leaves for the Buckeye State.
“I’m looking forward to the 2008 ASALMS Northern Division Season with Josh Lane. He really showed us at Hickory last October that he can get the job done coming from the back twice from a spin and a flat to finish Fourth”. Lorz said. “Crew Chief, Don Udoni is still talking about that race and he is excited to get this season going with his new driver!”
“The #54 team wants to win in the worst way and especially that Rookie of the Year title that seems to keep getting away from us.” Lorz continued. “The Lorz Motorsports #54 will be sporting a new paint scheme and the entire crew is excited about this upcoming year, we can’t wait!”
Lane made Two (2) ASALMS appearances with one race each in the Northern and Southern Divisions. His first race was in the 1st annual Bob Milner Memorial 125 at the Grundy County (IL) Speedway on September 9, 2007 where he finished 23rd.
The results were much better in his second and final 2007 appearance, as he and the Lorz Motorsports team traveled down to the historic Hickory (NC) Motor Speedway for the Meet the Stars 125 late in the season on October 20, 2007.
Lane survived a crash filled affair and severe cosmetic damage to his machine, and even a Flat Tire to finish an impressive Fourth, just missing the podium and one position behind his teammate for the weekend, Auckland, New Zealand driver, Michael Pickens.
“I want to get back on the track and build on our Fourth place finish at Hickory at the end of last year.” Lane then added. “This off season seems very long as I haven’t raced my shifter kart as much as I have in the past so I’m ready to go racing right now. I’d like to be competing up front as I feel we have the team and the car that can accomplish this”. Lane ended.
Prior to his Two ASALMS appearances, Lane spent time in USAC and UMARA Midgets Series’. Racing since he was just Eight years old, Lane has Three national karting championships, with numerous 125cc Shifter Kart wins. He has also won Formula Mazdas events and has several national midget Top Fives with UMARA and the USAC regional series.
In 2005 Josh started his midget career with the Freitag/Bruker Motorsports #12 UMARA Sportsmen car. He became the 2005 Rookie of the Year with UMARA and qualified top three in the last five events of the season.
Earlier during the 2007 season, and during an 11-day span in July, the 19-year-old drove a Shifter Kart, a Formula Mazda, a national Midget and tested an ASA Late Model with Lorz motorsports.
For the 2008 racing season, Lane will steer the familiar #54 Lorz Motorsports Ford Fusion carrying sponsorship from; Racers Against Hunger as well as Chicago Family Law, Performance Enterprises, Red Line Synthetic Oil, Kdubya.com, M.P.H. Promotions, and Lorz Motorsports.
