17-year-old Canadian, Jordan Sims teams up with Lorz Motorsports to run a partial 2008 schedule within the ASA Late Model Series
Midlothian, Illinois (02/26/2008): Lorz Motorsports, based in the Chicago suburb of Midlothian, Illinois is moving forward with there plans for the upcoming 2008 racing season in the ASA Late Model Series Presented by G.M Performance Parts.
For the 2008 racing season; Malta, Illinois driver, Troy Hintzsche and Algonquin, Illinois freshman, Josh Lane will team up and make a run at the 2008 ASALMS Northern Division Championship. Lane will also look to capture the 2008 Rookie of the Year title as well.
A third driver has now joined the Lorz Motorsports stable and in breaking with the theme of Illinois based drivers for the Prairie State based team, this driver is not only not from Illinois, he’s not even from the United States!
Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario / Canada driver, 17-year-old Jordan Sims has signed with the veteran team and will run a partial schedule within all three divisions of the ASALMS to gain experience for a full schedule in 2009 with hopes of winning the Rookie of the Year title in the ASALMS Northern Division.
“Jordan is young driver looking to get some experience in the ASA Late Model Series. He is going run a partial schedule with us in 2008. We are building a new Lefthander car for him to drive,” explained Lorz Motorsports Car Owner, Mike Lorz. Sims will be steering a new number for Lorz; #99 and the car will be a Chevrolet.
“We’re going to run him in a little bit of everything this season!” Lorz added. “We’ll test him as much as we can when he’s not racing! I’m looking forward to running with Jordan in 2008 the big thing for him to gain experience and get lots of laps.”
“Lorz then stated; “Jordan and his dad Barry came down to the shop and showed me some footage of some of his wins and I think he ready for the challenge this year. We’ve got a lot on our plate this season at Lorz Motorsports and I’m looking forward to getting started!” He ended.
“I’m really excited to be joining Lorz Motorsports for the 2008 season. With the vast knowledge that Lorz Motorsports has I believe we are going to have a great season.” Added Sims as he prepares for the 2008 racing season with Lorz Motorsports
“My goals for this season is to complete every lap and soak up as much knowledge I can to further my racing career. The ASA Late Model Series is a great series to develop and I’m very excited to be competing in the series this year.” He added.
“I’m excited to start testing with the Lorz Motorsports team and see what we can do and get familiar with how things are done!” continued the 17-year-old Canadian pilot. “I believe we will do very well if we finish every lap and that is our main goal. I would really like to thank Mike and Dan Lorz and the whole team for bringing me on this year.” Sims ended.
Sims started his stock car career in 2004 at the Laird (ON) International Raceway up near his hometown of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario at the age of 14 in the Four Cylinder division. He had a very good first year in his four-cylinder race car ending the season Ninth in points with Four (4) Wins, Six (6) Top Fives and Nine (9) Top 10s.
With the experience he gained in his first year of racing and under the guidance of his father, Sims decided to move up to the Modified division. In 2005, at the age of 15, Sims had an extraordinary rookie season in the open wheeled machines.
He finished with 17 wins en route to his first ever Championship and he also won the Rookie of the Year title that year! Sims was also the youngest driver ever to win a championship at Laird International Raceway.
In 2006, Sims repeated as Modified champion and also began his Super Late Model career on a limited basis later that season! With 12 wins accumulated in the championship run in the modified, Jordan picked up Two (2) Top Fives and Three (3) Top 10s in limited Super Late Model appearances.
Early in 2007, Sims made the trip down to North Carolina and tested a NASCAR Camping World Series car for Team Racing at Caraway (NC) Speedway. The decision was then made to move the 16-year-old at the time, to North Carolina.
Sims, who turned 17 on June 7th, would run in the Thunder Roadster division in the Summer Shootout at the Lowe’s (NC) Motor Speedway for Team Racing under the direction of Craftsman Truck Owner, Phil Bonifield and finished Fifth in points in the 10-week series.
The highlight of the Series for Sims was when he raced on the 1.5 mile super speedway reaching speeds of in excess of 140 mph. Jordan finished Ninth in that race, but more impressively he raced the car at that speed with a broken right front strut.
After the Summer Shootout series, The Canadian teenager returned to his home track of Laird International Raceway and made his first appearance in the Super Late Model division count by winning his first race of the year in that car.
He finished off his 2007 Racing Season at the Randy DeWitt Memorial at the Kinross (MI) Speed Park where he qualified an impressive Fourth out of 21 Super Late Models and finished Fifth in the 75-lap race. He also ran double duty that weekend as he also ran his Modified and finishing an impressive Fourth in that feature with an ill handling race car.
