Midlothian, Illinois (Thursday, October 16, 2008): Lorz Motorsports driver, Troy Hintzsche had a great chance at a coveted Top Five points position in the final 2008 ASA Late Model Series Northern Division Points Standings heading into the 2008 ASALMS North Season Championships.
The 0.545 Mile Progressively Banked Paved Oval of LaCrosse Fairgrounds Speedway, located east of the Minnesota / Wisconsin state line in West Salem, Wisconsin was the site for the biggest race of the season for the Northern Division competitors back on October 4th.
Coming into the race, the 25-year-old Hintzsche was just Nine (9) points out of the coveted Top Five in the final point’s standings. Unfortunately a disappointing 24th place finish in a caution filled affair dropped the Malta, Illinois driver down to Seventh in the final North standings.
Canadian, Jordan Sims also participated in the same race over the Oktoberfest Weekend and unfortunately for the 19-year-old, he only completed 16 laps out of the 100-lap feature and was credited with a 31st place finish.
Even though he didn’t finish where he wanted too, the Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario / Canada driver gained valuable experience as he prepares for a full run at the 2009 ASALMS Northern Division Rookie of the Year title!
Lorz Motorsports Car Owner, Mike Lorz reflected on the 2008 racing season with his three teams that competed during the year.
Troy Hintzsche: “He had an awesome year this season finishing seventh in points and getting his first career podium finish at the Milwaukee Mile when he finished third. We only had one DNF (Did Not Finish) all season before the last race at LaCrosse, which is what hurt us in getting into the Top Five in the final points standings.”
Jordan Sims: “I think we’d like to forget Jordan’s season. He just had the worst luck that I’ve seen in a long time. None of what happened was his doing. He had a good run at Berlin where he finished 16th in his first ever start with us, but after that, things went south from there with crashes and a blown engine.”
“But he learned a lot this season. He’ll compete for the 2009 ASALMS Northern Division Rookie of the Year title and we’re definitely looking forward to a great season with this talented young man.”
Josh Lane: “He had a good first year in the ASA Late Model Series even though he had very limited experience in stock cars. By mid-season he had a few Top 10 runs and was improving. But due to financial reasons, he couldn’t finish the last three races of the season, so his chances of a Top 10 finish in the points went away.”
While the season is technically over for Lorz Motorsports, there is an opportunity for drivers with funding to compete in the last ASALMS race of the season at Memphis Motorsports Park in Memphis, Tennessee on Friday and Saturday, November 14-15, 2008.
In addition to the Memphis event, Lorz Motorsports is also looking ahead to the 2009 season and is seeking a driver with financial backing for a run the full schedules in the ASALMS Challenge and Northern Divisions as well as some races in the ASALMS Southern Division.
